TEACHERS

It was just another Tuesday in June 2003 when my friend John Sikorjak (thank you, John) suggested I join him for a Bikram Yoga class. I said sure, why not, how hard could it be to do yoga? My first class- I was a train wreck. Not supposed to leave the room – I left the room. Water? Spent most of the time pouring it on my head. Standing Head to Knee – could not reach my foot. Fixed Firm – no, don't think so. Triangle Pose – fugetaboutit. Thanks to a patient and loving certified Bikram Yoga teacher, somehow I made it through the class.
I went home, poured myself into bed, and thanked God for allowing me to survive. I woke up the next morning and it was like a miracle – my knees felt better than they had since high school. My back felt better. And, I felt 3 inches taller. So, I went back...and went back...and went back. Seven years later and 35 pounds lighter, I realized I needed to share this wonderful yoga as much as I possibly could. So, I trekked off to San Diego in the Fall 2010 and immersed myself in Bikram's rigorous nine-week Teacher Training. I came back from that and I was fortunate to be mentored by Jane Kartsch, the owner of Bikram Yoga Yorktown Heights and Bikram Yoga Bronx.
Now I look forward to meeting you and sharing this life changing yoga as we sweat and stretch and transform our bodies, minds, and spirits.

Myrna took her first class Nov 2008 and by the time the first set of Pranayama Breathing was done, she was hooked and had already decided she wanted to become a certified Bikram Yoga Instructor. Almost 4 years to the day of that fabulous 1st class, Myrna graduated from Fall 2012 Teacher Training in Los Angeles.
She continues to grow and be challenged in her own practice, as well as, in her teaching. Myrna is totally excited to be part of the Bikram Yoga Scarsdale community and looks forward to seeing YOU there!!!
I started Bikram Yoga in 2008. My parents had been practicing for a few years and finally got me to come take a class, and I hated it. I was a gymnast and a cheerleader so I assumed it was going to be easy, it was not. I continued to go when I was forced to and as much as I didn't want to go, I always felt great after. Whenever I was stressed or having a bad day I would go take a class and had a place where I didn't have to think about anything else. My dad went to teacher training in 2010 and we all thought he was crazy. Then after many years of contemplating, I finally went to teacher training in Fall of 2015 in Thailand! It has definitely been a journey and I now look forward to helping others with their journey.
I wasn't exactly the 'yogi type' when I took my first class back in 2010. All my body knew was sports and hardcore trainings, which actually broke my body down. My first class was taken with my mom when I was only 15, I thought to myself 'how hard could this be if I'm so active?'... So I walked in with confidence, set up my mat, and was ready for action. My first class was led by Richard Pike and he killed me, I didn't think there was a way out, especially because how determined I was to get through. I powered through for the longest hour and a half drenched, face beat red, counting down the seconds until it was over. After class, I thanked him and he told me that he'd see me tomorrow so that's when I came back, and I was hooked. I never thought that my broken down knees and shoulders would get better and I knew that the heat combined with the well-thought-out postures that my body was on its road to recovery. I loved the way this yoga challenged me mentally, physically, and emotionally; and that's why I'm still here now. Every time I take class, I go into the room with different feelings, emotions, or aches, and and every time I come out feeling like a new person! I knew Bikram yoga was for me so I jumped on the teacher training boat in Spring 2014. I'm so passionate about my job and Bikram Yoga, and I'm sure if you give it a shot you'd love it too! See you in the hot room!
Julia didn't know how to balance before she started yoga. She was introduced to Bikram Yoga in 2007 by a friend when she ran half marathons. Even though she started with Vinyasa and practices other types of yoga, the Bikram Yoga hot room allows for the most stretching. Immediately she felt yoga's other benefits: meditation, cardio, strength building, stress reduction, and most importantly, balance. This practice is part of her lifestyle and she went to teacher training in L.A. in the fall of 2012. She is interested in sharing Bikram yoga with you at the Scarsdale studio!
I have been practicing Bikram Yoga regularly since 2010. I started at Bikram Yoga Park Slope and watched my whole life change within those studio walls. I decided to quit my job as a fashion designer and attend the Fall 2013 Teacher Training and I never looked back. I teach in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Westchester, which is also where I live with my family.
